BUCYRUS — A Galion woman appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court to plead guilty to several drug-related charges.

Amy Daniels, 46, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of drugs, each a fifth-degree felony and each punishable with up to 12 months in prison and one count of conveyance of drugs into a detention facility, a third-degree felony punishable with up to 36 months in prison.

When asked if she had anything to say before sentencing, Daniels told Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold, “I was high when I went in. I didn’t even know I had it on me. If I knew I would’ve given it up.”

The drugs were found in an undergarment.

“Voluntary intoxication is not a valid defense in Ohio,” Leuthold said. “You know what could have solved all this? Not getting high”

When Leuthold asked Daniels if she had a job, she said she had worked at the same place for seven years before she started using meth.

“I quit my job so I could use meth. I fell off the wagon,” Daniels said.

“You quit your job to pursue meth? How’d that work out for you? You’re 46 years old and taking meth,” Leuthold said. “If you get out, we will try and help you. You can have a good life again.”

Leuthold sentenced Daniels to eight months on each count of drug possession and 36 months on the charge of conveyance of drugs into a detention center for a total of 59 months in prison.

Daniels was ordered to forfeit all drug-related property to the appropriate law enforcement agency. She will receive 33 days of jail time credit. Daniels must serve 18 months of her sentence before she becomes eligible for judicial release.
