BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Former Bucyrus City Councilwoman Carolyn Shireman has requested early release from prison, according to court records filed in Crawford County Common Pleas Court.

Shireman submitted a motion for judicial release on June 2, asking the court to allow her to serve the remainder of her sentence under community supervision rather than incarceration. The request was filed with visiting Judge Howard Hall, who is presiding over the case.

Although the motion was filed earlier this month, the court’s ruling on the request was entered Wednesday.

Shireman was convicted after entering no contest pleas to theft-related charges involving a protected class victim. The case stemmed from allegations that she unlawfully obtained funds from an disabled/elderly victim.

Judge Hall denied Shireman’s judicial release citing her inability to follow prison rules. Noting that her behavior in prison would likely “carry over” making it difficult for her to successfully complete the terms and conditions of her community control
