BUCYRUS—A small, but hearty group of faithful protesters stood outside of the Crawford County Court House this afternoon chanting their all familiar and now viral chant; “Justice For Mikey!”
The group was formed after the vicious beating of Michael “Mikey” Benedict of Carey.
Jaqueline Montgomery, her husband Timothy Montgomery, and Cameron Davis, all of Crestline, were arraigned in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on felonious assault charges of the second degree, punishable with up to 8 years in prison.
Cameron Davis who had his first preliminary hearing today was the incentive for the pop-up rally. The group understood that Davis would not be present but they wanted to be present for their loved one and friend.
They shouted out the names of each defendant followed by their chant. The group is also rallying for Mikey’s Law, their effort to create a first-degree felony for assault charge for cases like this.
Benedict, the father of six, has never regained consciousness. He is currently on hospice care at a private location.
According to Crestline Police Chief Jeff Shook, the department is following developments closely and has a contingency plan in place.
As the outpouring of community support for Benedict increases, the family has asked everyone to turn on their porch light (or any light) Friday from 6-9 pm. The family would be greatly encouraged if pictures were uploaded to the Facebook Page following their journey; “JUSTICE FOR MIKEY”. The family is planning a benefit dinner to help cover medical expenses on November 12th.
