NEWS RELEASE:
On October 19, 2017, six “Outstanding Senior Citizens” were inducted into the “Crawford County Golden Years Hall of Fame” honoring outstanding senior citizens for their distinctive service to the community. In 1978, the first 14 Senior Citizens were inducted into the “Crawford County Golden Years Hall of Fame,” with a total of 230 Senior Citizens inducted from 1978-2017.
The program held at the Crawford County Council on Aging, recognized; Ted Bruner of Crestline; Elwood F. Gebhardt of Bucyrus; Donald O. Heimlich of Galion, Helen T. Kirk of Bucyrus; Martha Kozik of Galion; and Floyd J. Reinhart of Sycamore.
Letters were sent to clubs, churches and community organizations asking for nominations. The eligibility criteria to be nominated are chosen on the following:
- Individuals must be currently living in Crawford County and representing the area in which they live.
- Must be age 60 or older
- Must possess distinctive service to the community; for their efforts in the past and present, while making Crawford County a better place to live.
A welcome, invocation and introduction of nominees were provided by Dave Bush, WBCO Spotlight Host, alongside Cassie Herschler, Executive Director of the Council on Aging, who presented the plaques to the nominees.
Thank you to Norton’s Flowers of Bucyrus, for your generous donation in providing corsages and boutonnieres to the honorees’. The awards presented to the honorees’ were compliments of Orchard Park of Bucyrus.
The Council on Aging would like to extend great appreciation to the community for their support in recognizing and celebrating the achievements of all the “Crawford County Golden Years Hall of Fame” inductees.
The next event is the Council on Aging’s Community Halloween Breakfast on Thursday, October 26th at the Senior Center from 9-11 a.m.
