BUCYRUS—The Bucyrus City Council Health and Safety Committee met Thursday in the council chambers.
Committee Chairman Kevin Myers discussed motorized modes of transportation and how they are being used in the city limits.
Myers previously asked Interim Law Director Brian Gernert to research Ohio laws.
Gernert, who was unable to attend the meeting, sent an email to the council saying he needed more time to research the issue.
Gernert did notate that any gas-powered bicycle operated in the city has to be registered with the BMV and must display a rear license plate.
A person using a gas-powered engine must also possess a valid driver’s license.
Anyone operating any mode of transportation in the city must abide by traffic laws, including speed limits, stops signs, and any other applicable laws.
Myers asked Mayor Reser if the Police Department would keep an eye out for these various modes of transportation:
“I know I got a call from two different residents over on Rensselaer Street. I was over there and saw one of them today riding up and down the street,” Myers said.
Myers described what he saw as something like a minibike.
Myers also said he saw a familiar Mobility Scooter with modified wheels doing about 40mph down Walnut Street as he was on his way to the meeting.
Myers asked that the issue be placed on the next agenda to give Gernert time to research the issue.
Golf carts in Bucyrus are governed by their own regulations.
