The Bucyrus Public Library Board of Trustees is asking the Bucyrus City Council for a resolution to place an additional .5 mill tax levy on the ballot on May 8.

Library director Brenda Crider said council is the taxing authority agent for the library since it is located in the city of Bucyrus.

“Voters from the Wynford School District that is located in Crawford County as well as voters from certain areas of the Colonel Crawford School District will also be voting on the levy since they are part of our service area,” Crider said during the regular council meeting Tuesday evening.

Crider said the funding is needed for operational and programming expenses at the library.

“Currently, we are operating on the same amount of money that we had in the budget in 1998,” Crider said.

The issue was referred to the finance committee that will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday during the council’s joint committee meeting. Other issues referred to committees include material bids, appropriations, sewer groups one and two, the East Mansfield and Whetstone Street project, mill and paving projects and the 2018 airport project.

Council president Sis Love said that now is the time to call the mayor’s office with suggestions of streets that are in need of milling and paving.

Safety Service Director Jeff Wagner said that city crews are plowing the streets as quickly as possible.

“We have a few people that are new to plowing,” Wagner said. “If an area has been missed, please call the mayor’s office to let us know.”

Wagner said there have been seven waterline breaks throughout the city so far this winter and that a boil advisory is automatically issued each time there is a break.

“Crews are working very hard to get everything back up and running and to get the advisories lifted,” Wagner said.

Mayor Jeff Reser presented city auditor Joyce Schifer with an award for her hard work from the state government’s finance office.

Schifer, who has been in her position of auditor for 18 years, said she is appreciative and has won the award in the past.

The next council meeting is at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 in council chambers at Bucyrus City Hall.
