One of Mayor Roger Moore’s responsibilities is to recognize outstanding citizens of the community, and due to her numerous contributions and accomplishments, Moore has named July 31, 2013 “Joan Carver Day.”
Carver was born in Bucyrus and is a graduate of Bucyrus High School. She received her bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Russell Sage College of Troy, New York and went on to work at Capital Finance for 20 years and was Senior Cashier. She was employed by Farmers Citizens Bank in Bucyrus and was Vice President in the Loan Department prior to her retirement.
Joan is active at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she is a member of the Cotta Group and volunteers as a money counter. She is a member of the Bucyrus Chapter of the Eastern Star and serves on the board of the Bucyrus Historical Society. For eight years Joan was a member of the Bucyrus Altrusa Club, where she served as treasurer.
In 1977, the board for Friends of the Bucyrus Public Library was chartered, and Joan has been a charter member of the board and has served in the capacity of secretary and/or treasurer for the past 36 years.
According to Moore’s proclamation, few can boast for so many years of service and enthusiasm to the community. It states, “She has shared her vast knowledge providing continuity of the past with the present with faithful work and devotion.”
Carver will be celebrated at an invitation-only event at the Bucyrus Public Library.
