NEWS RELEASE:

Students from the Bucyrus City School District helped bring holiday cheer to the Bucyrus City Hall in the form of Christmas decorations Dec. 5.

The program, which started six years ago, is a way to get Bucyrus students involved in public service and to build community pride. Students in the Elementary School and Secondary School Afterschool Programs, the district’s Preschool Program and Ms. Allie Hawkins’ kindergarten class spent several days making the ornaments that are displayed throughout City Hall.

“The students really enjoy making the different Christmas ornaments for the City Hall tree and interior,” said Timothy Souder, Elementary School Principal. “It is great that the students get to see the work they’ve completed on display for everyone in Bucyrus to see.”

Once the ornaments were delivered and the tree was up, it was time for the Bucyrus High School Student Council to go to work. Fourteen Student Council members volunteered to go to City Hall and hang the decorations made by their fellow Redmen. High School volunteers included: Emmelia Bloomfield, Isidora Burling, Annabella Flores-Eidson, Randall Elchert, Paige Harper, Abigail Hart, Mason Light, Riley Moody, Samantha Murtiff, Shaina Orewiler, Daniell Predieri, Alex Rule, Kade Slagle and Allyson Stewart.

“This is always one of our Student Council’s favorite projects,” said Dr. Mark Burke, Secondary School Principal. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with city leadership and give back to the community.”

Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser, whose favorite season is Christmas, was excited when he saw the fruits of the students’ labor throughout City Hall.

“This is a chance for the students to plug in to the life of the city,” said Reser. “The more opportunities we give students to plug in to the life of the city, the better city we’re going to have.”

The City Hall Christmas tree and ornaments will be on display throughout the entire Christmas season for all Bucyrus community members to enjoy.
