BUCYRUS – Have you seen the gorgeous hanging flower baskets lining Sandusky Avenue through downtown Bucyrus? If not, make sure you take notice the next time you walk or drive through town.
Harold and Marylyn Strang are two of the more than 40 volunteers that water these lovely baskets throughout the late spring, summer and early fall. Harold recently used the new Bucyrus Beautification project watering tractor that was purchased thanks to funding provided by the John Q. Shunk Foundation, Tractor Supply Company in Bucyrus and the Walmart Foundation to water the baskets lining the downtown street.
“We are especially thankful for all of the volunteers who generously give their time and effort to help keep our flowers healthy and our city beautiful,” said Pete Maynard, co-chair along with his wife, Susan, of the Bucyrus Beautification Project.
All of the equipment and supplies, including the flowers and baskets, are funded through private donations.
“This is place attachment at its best – where people increase their affinity for their town by taking care of it and making it attractive,” emphasized Lisa Workman, President of the Foundation. “The Bucyrus Beautification Fund is one of the many funds of Projects, Inc, a non-profit support organization of the Foundation, that embody this goal.”
Those wishing to make a tax-deductible gift to this fund can do so by sending a check payable to Projects, Inc. and simply put Bucyrus Beautification Fund in the Memo/For line of the check. Mail or drop off your check to The Community Foundation for Crawford County at 254 East Mansfield Street, Bucyrus, OH 44820. There is a secure drop box at the back of the Foundation building.
