The Bucyrus Police department recently received a check for $25,000 for its D.A.R.E. program initiative. The check was presented Tuesday, Oct. 10 at the Bucyrus Rotary Club meeting at the Bucyrus Public Library.
Representatives from State Farm, BPD, Bucyrus City Schools, the City of Bucyrus and the office of Congressman Jim Jordan were present for the presentation.
The grant was awarded due to BPD finishing in the top 40 of 2,000 applicants for the State Farm Neighborhood Assist program.
The money will be used to fund the D.A.R.E. program at Bucyrus Elementary for all grades. Bucyrus currently has D.A.R.E. for sixth-grade students through the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
Officer Jo Stahl recently went through the D.A.R.E. training program and will be the officer in charge of the program for BPD.
