ONTARIO, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Avita Health System announced the launch of shear wave liver elastography at its Ontario Hospital, a move aimed at enhancing the diagnosis and monitoring of chronic liver conditions through non-invasive technology.
The newly acquired diagnostic tool allows medical providers to detect and manage diseases such as hepatic fibrosis, cirrhosis, hepatitis B and C, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease without the need for traditional biopsies.
“We are dedicated to bringing innovative, forward-thinking technology to our community to elevate the standard of patient care,” said Jerry Morasko, President and CEO of Avita Health System. “With advanced diagnostic tools, we can provide more accurate diagnoses and management, making liver elastography another investment that will help provide comprehensive evaluations of liver health.”
Avita Health System invested in the Canon Aplio i-series Prism Edition for the service. The equipment utilizes ultrasound waves to measure liver elasticity and stiffness. The system features proprietary AI filtering designed to enhance tissue detail and an “autotune” feature to ensure consistent results across different patients.
Medical officials noted that liver elastography is often preferred over biopsies because it is painless, carries no risk of complications, and typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. The technology is also used to track disease progression and determine the effectiveness of ongoing medical treatments.
Testing is available Monday through Friday at Avita Ontario Hospital. A medical provider’s order is required for the procedure. Patients can request an appointment through central scheduling at 419-462-3310.
