GALION, OH  (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—History enthusiasts and fun seekers are in for a treat as Preserving Galion, Inc. announces two unique events that bring the past to life in entertaining ways.

Johnny Appleseed Day

On Saturday, July 27, from 1 PM to 3 PM, the doors and grounds of the landmark Gill House will open for Johnny Appleseed Day. This event celebrates the 250th anniversary of Johnny Appleseed’s birth year and his connection to the community.

The day will feature a variety of activities and entertainment, including:

  • Apple pie and ice cream for guests
  • Music and house tours, with unique items from personal collections on display
  • A ceremonial apple tree planting, commemorating the Gills’ relationship to Johnny Appleseed
  • Activities for children
  • A raffle with amazing prizes donated by area businesses and individuals
  • A treasure map of Galion pointing out locations where Johnny Appleseed trees are known to have been planted

The event promises to be a day centered on food, fun, and friends. And the cherry on top (or should we say apple)? Johnny Appleseed himself might just drop by!

Eerie Galion Walks

Following the success of last fall’s Eerie Galion Walks, the event returns this year beginning on the night of Friday, July 26.

Eerie Galion Walks offer a unique experience found nowhere else in north central Ohio. Each walk is an entertaining, often spine-tingling trip back in time, infused with elements of the unknown.

Participants will stroll through the streets and sidewalks along Galion’s main street, Harding Way. Along the path, tales of mystery, intrigue, scandal, crime, and the unknown are told in the actual spots where each took place. This year, those stories include newly discovered tales and unbelievable occurrences.

The evening ends at the Gill House for refreshments and, for those who choose, updates on the latest paranormal discoveries there.

Eerie Galion walks are currently scheduled for July 26, August 9, and August 30. Beginning in September, they will take place on a regular basis through Halloween.
