SULPHUR SPRINGS—With the end of July comes the annual Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department’s Fireman’s Festival.
The festival, after its conception in 1985, has been a community favorite ever since with its good food and its sense of camaraderie.
A few items from this year’s menu are homemade, slow-roasted beef and pork, bratwurst, hot dogs, and side dishes including macaroni salad, jalapeño eggs, baked beans, and Troyer’s pies.
For entertainment this year, the local band, One Foot in the Grave, will be playing both nights. Festival goers can sit back and enjoy the music while enjoying a drink from the beer garden as long as they are 21. IDs will be checked.
Gun raffle tickets will be available for purchase on both nights of the festival, and the winners will be drawn on Saturday.
“It’s a community thing, it’s a time for people from the community and surrounding areas to get together and visit and have a good meal,” Fire Chief Rick Harley said.
Behind the scenes of the festival, the firefighters, their families, and many community members volunteer to help it run smoothly each and every year.
“We couldn’t do it without all of the people who give their time to help us put on this festival to serve our community,” Harley said.
“We’re very grateful for the people that volunteer their time to help us put on a successful festival, and we’re very grateful for all of the people who show up to eat and support us. It helps our department purchase things to help better serve our community that otherwise wouldn’t be in the budget.”
The festival takes place Friday, July 29, and Saturday, July 30, from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m.
