BUCYRUS — Several people and groups were recognized during the Bucyrus City Council meeting Tuesday evening.
Mayor Jeff Reser introduced Bucyrus residents Rich and Helen Michalek who are donating a plot of land east of the tennis courts at Aumiller Park to be used as a walking path and nature area.
Tree Board Northwest Ohio Director of Urban Forestry Stephanie Miller congratulated the city on being a Tree City USA.
Bucyrus City Tree Board President Valerie Spreng invited the public to participate in the planting of trees on Arbor Day, April 26, beginning at 10 a.m. at the railroad station on East Rensselaer Street. Trees will be planted at the station and at Bucyrus Elementary and Secondary schools. She introduced tree board members who were present at the meeting which included Jeff Panovich, Dave Tuttle, Susan Cathcart, Mary Lee Minor and Brad Van Voorhis.
Reser honored three groups of young people for high levels of achievement.
He presented Andrew Pfeifer with a certificate of recognition for his achievement as state champion in power lifting and Caleigh Rister for making the Ohio Governor’s Art Show Top 300 for her photograph, “Santa’s Workshop.”
Reser also recognized the 19 members of the Bucyrus XBand and their director, Mark Fiske, for their accomplishment in making the top three bands in the Tri-C Rock Off at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland in February.
In other business, council approved legislation for the city service safety director to put a bid into the Ohio Department of Transportation for road salt for next year and an appropriation.
Council committee meetings will be Thursday, April 25 at 6 p.m., due to Holy Week, and the next council meeting is May 7 at 7 p.m.
