While the business of education is a tough one on the best of days, the moments of success are worth noting. The Galion school board did just that on Thursday.
Galion Superintendent Mark Stefanik explained an award the district received from the United Way of Crawford County for receiving the most donations of any district in the county.
“The community education foundation exists. It’s a foundation that is based off of community donations and what they do they is focus on providing educational experiences for our students. So, they’ve been integrally involved for years with several projects and field trips is just one of them,” Stefanik said. “They’ve helped out with music education programs; they’ve helped out with an elementary foreign-language offering for students. So they’re looking at ways to provide educational opportunities in these tight economic times.”
The district received a donation of more than $1,900 recently to fund field trips for kindergarten classes.
The board also recognized Galion’s NCC championship boys swim team with certificates of recognition.
“They rewrote the record books,” said Galion swim coach Ted Temple.
Members of the team are Logan Amos, Tanner Amos, Alex Barker, Lucas Conner, Samuel DeNero, John Finch, Joseph Horvath, Chad Karnes, Landon Rose and Evan Zumbro.
Two art students were also recognized for their work. They are Sari Conner and Karder Seasly.
