NORTH ROBINSON — Colonel Crawford High School student Kayla Humphrey attended the Colonel Crawford School District Board of Education meeting for two reasons Monday evening.

Humphrey and fellow student Elizabeth Brown were given certificates of recognition by Amanda Sheets of the North Central State College Success Center in Bucyrus for their artwork.

“We had a silent auction and a live auction to sell the pieces created by local students to raise a total of $25,466.74 for scholarships to stay local and attend the Success Center,” Sheets said.

Sheets said each of the participants will be given two free college credit hours which are valued at $332. Other participants who received recognition during the board meeting included Haley Ratliff, Izzy Stalter and Kyle Taylor.

Humphrey also spoke to the board about her experience with the Ruling Our Experience (ROX) program that was recently initiated at the high school level.

“Girls that I was friends with before are like family now. We support each other,” Humphrey said about the 20-week program for girls that addresses issues such as bullying, conflict and communication and leadership.

The high school portion of the program is led by Michelle Ashley who brought the program to Colonel Crawford.

“The cost of the program is $75 per girl,” Ashley said.

Ashley said grant money from sources such as the Community Foundation of Crawford County and Columbia Gas is being used to fund it.

Lori Carman is leading the junior high program while Tasha Lilse will oversee the elementary program.

During the regular business portion of the meeting, the board passed several issues on the agenda including the hiring of summer workers at state minimum wage, the high school course description book and school calendar for the 2019-20 school year.

The next board meeting is April 29 at 8 p.m. instead of the regularly scheduled April 22 at 7 p.m. due to the Easter holiday and scheduling conflicts.
