BUCYRUS — With encouragement from family, friends and co-workers, Shane Etzinger has taken his hobby of repairing small engines and turned it into a business.
The Bucyrus man opened Zinger’s Mower Repairs and More at his home located near Wynford Local Schools at 1835 Lincoln Highway.
“I have been a mechanic my whole life. My stepdad was a mechanic and I learned a lot from him while I was growing up,” Etzinger said.
Etzinger also works at Showplace Rent to Own in Bucyrus.
“I have been doing all of the lawn mower repairs for customers there and the people I work with encouraged me to open my own business,” Etzinger said.
In addition to lawn mowers, Etzinger works on generators, leaf blowers, weed eaters, chain saws, go-carts and more.
“I may do some dirt bike, four-wheeler and motorcycle repairs, it just depends on the job,” Etzinger said.
He also buys, sells and trades in used items such as lawn mowers and the parts for them.
To make repairs for customers as convenient as possible, Etzinger offers a service many places do not.
“I have a truck and company trailer so I’m able to pick up and deliver for an additional cost,” said Etzinger, who is in the process of obtaining certification in small engine repair through Briggs and Stratton. The business also is fully insured.
Etzinger said he enjoys helping others and wants to do what he can to help in the community. He recently offered a drawing through his business Facebook page to offer a free Christmas dinner to a local family.
“For people who liked the Facebook page and shared the post, I put their names in a bowl and we drew the winner last week. It was David Voorhees,” Etzinger said. “I want to do more in the future to help out in the community.”
