GALION — Galion City Council cleared its slate Tuesday evening, moving every piece of legislation to its final reading for passage.

Prior to the legislative part of the meeting, Dale Hartle from the Ohio Regional Development Corporation gave a Fair Housing presentation. During Hartle’s remarks, he explained about the city applying for funding to tear down the old Neff’s grocery store.

Funding has been approved, but they are in the process of evaluating the bids that were offered.

The first pieces of legislation were amendments of 2018 appropriations, one of them containing sections moving money that will be used to shore up the Galion Depot, specifically windows and roofing.

Mayor Tom O’Leary said they wanted to advertise for bids so the work may be completed before cold weather sets in. Council approved it unanimously on the final reading.

The last piece of legislation was to approve advertising for bidding for the bathrooms that are to be built on the Depot property. The project is not to exceed $102,000. Time was of the essence again, so the ordinance passed unanimously on final reading.

In other business, a business called Las Vias LLC applied for a liquor license for a Mexican restaurant that would be located at the defunct Iron Works Grill on Portland Way South.

The restaurant’s name on the permit is La Fragua. Several council members asked if the building had passed its inspections, and as of the meeting it was not known if it had.

All city officials agreed that the new business would be an asset to the city.
