BUCYRUS — A quick but strong storm cell made its impact felt to Bucyrus residents Thursday afternoon, as the storm closed multiple city roads due to fallen trees, limbs and power lines.

The winds that accompanied the storm caused damage to a downtown building on the corner of North Sandusky Avenue and Mary Street. An employee at the NAPA store next to the damaged building said he was in a truck when the storm hit and the entire vehicle shook.

A wooden enclosing, keeping the elements out of the open store front under construction, was torn from the building and wrapped around a street lamp.

On East Rensselaer Street, a tree fell at the intersection of East Rensselaer and Iron streets, completely blocking traffic, and a tree fell on a vehicle parked on the street west of the East Rensselaer and South Lane streets intersection.

The owner of the vehicle said she was in the back of her residence and was watching on old apple tree to check if the winds took it down. She said she never heard the branch in the front of her residence fall. She said her granddaughter contacted her and told her about the damage.

Crews also responded to Woodlawn Avenue near Bucyrus Elementary for a fallen tree and a limb knocked down power lines onto Shelter Houses One and Two at Aumiller Park.

One park employee said he and another employee were mowing and got into a truck when the storm hit. He said they could not see a few feet in front of them the rain was so heavy.

Multiple crews, including the Bucyrus fire and police departments responded to multiple scenes to redirect motorists and residents from coming into contact with the damaged areas.

Crews are in the process of cleaning the damage.
