BUCYRUS — Several defendants were sentenced to prison Wednesday when they appeared before Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold.

Daniel Bloomfield II, 34, of Galion was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. Bloomfield committed the assault during a bar fight.

Before handing down his sentence, Leuthold made sure the victim in the case approved of the agreed sentence. In addition to the prison sentence, Bloomfield will have to pay restitution to be determined at a later hearing.

“It’s simple, you cannot drink, you have to stay out of bars,” Leuthold told Bloomfield. “In the future if you are released early, that will be condition of probation. Nothing good happens for you in a bar.” Bloomfield is to have no contact with the victim.

Jacqueline Gildard (left), of Galion, was sentenced to 12 months in prison.

In other court proceedings, Jacquelyn Gildard, 49, of Galion will spend the next 12 months in prison. Gildard pleaded guilty to possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. Gildard admitted to violating the terms and conditions of her community control when she smoked crack in April. Leuthold said he would not oppose early release for Gildard.

Jacob Morgan, 24, of Crestline was sentenced to a total of 45 months in prison. Morgan reoffended twice after receiving judicial release after serving time for a 2016 conviction for receiving stolen property and theft. Leuthold said it gave him no pleasure to send Morgan back to prison

“I let you out and you did something stupid,” Leuthold said. “I gave you a second chance and now here we are again. I have no choice but to send you to prison.”

Chase Cole, 21, of Bucyrus pleaded guilty to two counts of forgery and one count of theft. Cole was placed on five years of community control and ordered to pay $3,513.02 in restitution plus the cost of supervision. If Cole fails to complete his community control he faces as many as 36 months in prison.

Ricard Austin (right), of Tiro, was sentenced to eight months in prison on drug charges.

Richard Austin, 47, of Tiro will spend the next eight months in prison after he pleaded guilty to violating the terms and conditions of his community control. In May, Austin tested positive for THC, methamphetamine and amphetamines. Austin will receive credit for jail time served.

Richard Wiggins, 25, of Galion pleaded guilty to three felony counts including two counts of forgery and one count of theft. In nontypical fashion, Leuthold ran each of the 12-month sentences concurrently. As a result, Wiggins will spend 12 months in prison, and will receive credit for jail time served. Leuthold also said he would not oppose conditional release if offered to Wiggins while serving his time.

In an impassioned plea, Leuthold sentenced Joshua Kohls, 38, of Galion to 12 months in the community based correctional facility known as Crosswaeh in Tiffin.

Joshua Kohls (right), of Galion was sentenced to a community-based correction facility.

Kohls was serving five years of community control when he was charged with possession of drugs. According to probation officer Eric Bohach, Kohls was found unresponsive because of a drug overdose in Galion. The Narcan shot was administered to save Kohl’s life.

“I gave you a good pep talk the last time you were before me and then you went out and damn near killed yourself,” Leuthold said.

Leuthold explained to Kohls that because he has an addictive personality, he must attack his problem every single day.

“It’s as hard if not harder than anything else you have ever done in your life,” Leuthold said. “This is not just a decision you make to quit, it’s a problem you cannot fix on your own. Be humble but attack your sobriety every day.”

Leuthold told Kohls he was getting one last life-or-death break.

“I don’t normally give these chances, but I want to see you stay alive and I am imploring you to take this seriously and get your life back,” Leuthold said.
