Melvin L. “Mel” Cain, 86, of Galion passed away Saturday morning, March 24, 2018 at Mill Creek Nursing Home in Galion.
He was born December 12, 1931 in Belmont County, Ohio and was the son of Thomas L. and Selma (Yaus) Cain. Mel is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances (Wilson) Cain whom he married on June 10, 1951.
Mel graduated from Belmont High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired after 24 years at the former North Electric/ ITT in Galion. Mel was a member of the Community Christian Church, American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 303 all of Galion. Mel enjoyed reading, walking, gardening and all sports in general. He was an avid golfer and was proud of his hole in one on the 2nd hole at Valley View. Mel loved spending time with his family, especially at his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Micki Jones of Commerce, Georgia, Brian (Alice) Cain of Huron, Renita (Cal) Holt of Galion and Darcy (Rob) Flowers of Galion; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 with Dr. Daniel Turner officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memory Gardens, Lexington.
Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
