PRESS RELEASE:

Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser looked toward the future during his visit with juniors and seniors at Bucyrus High School on March 12.

The overall message Reser shared with students focused on “ownership,” and the need for a unity of purpose to make their hometown a better place.

“The next generation will be responsible for Bucyrus for years to come,” Reser explained. “Their time to lead is upon us, and I wanted to challenge them to be involved citizens and leaders who have the ability to unite the Bucyrus Community.”

Reser highlighted the investment in infrastructure made in 2017, showing the students that the city administration has been active in preparing the community for their leadership.

“We’ve invested nearly $30,000,000 in infrastructure in the last year and will be turning the ownership over to these students someday,” said Reser. “I hope the students understand our thought process in making these investments in Bucyrus and why we are optimistic for our community’s opportunity.”

Reser further explained that this is another opportunity to showcase the close collaboration that takes places between the city government and the city schools.

“Close collaboration is the key to a healthy community,” said Reser. “The city and the schools have to work together to solve the problems this generation faces and develop responsible citizens and a solid workforce for our employers.”

Kelli Patterson, the City’s Administrative Assistant, arranged the event with Bucyrus High School teachers, Nancy Fischer and Brett Love.

“It’s always great to have our elected officials take an interest in our students, especially when that official is an alumnus of the district,” said Kevin Kimmel, Bucyrus Superintendent. “I want to thank our staff for giving our students the opportunity to hear Mayor Reser’s message of ownership in our community.”
