The scene of one crash caused a second one Tuesday morning.
The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of St. Rt. 598 and CR 330 around 9:30 Tuesday morning. Sixty-nine-year-old Hector Madera of Plymouth was driving his 2000 Ford Taurus south on St. Rt. 598 when he failed to stop at the intersection.
Seventy-one-year-old Harold McNeal of Crestline struck the driver’s side of Madera’s car and both vehicles traveled off the southwest corner of the intersection.
Madera, McNeal and their respective passengers were transported to local emergency rooms with possible injuries.
The Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Crestline Fire and EMS and Galion EMS.
Emergency crews were on scene and still arriving when 27-year-old Craig Gandert approached the scene from the south, followed by Galion EMS. With traffic stopped, Galion EMS could not get any closer and the EMS personnel elected to exit the vehicle to assist on-scene personnel. During that time, Gandert proceeded to back up and struck the ambulance.
Both accidents remain under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
