Once again, hundreds of pancakes were served at the Friends of the Crawford Park District’s annual Pancakes in the Park event on Saturday morning.
“This fundraiser is a great opportunity to meet with our supports, find out what’s on everyone’s minds, and share about the park and our mission,” said Park District Director Bill Fisher.
Supporters and friends paid a $5 donation which got them pancakes, ham, coffee, and juice. The donations go to events for kids like fishing and summer camp, and also to a general fund for the Friends’ projects to support the park.
In the past, between 200 and 300 people showed up and donated. This year, they were already at 107 people after only the first hour.

The fundraiser would not be possible without the many volunteers that help work and donate. Businesses like Kohl’s, Hartschuh Family Farms, and others all pitched in. Kohl’s sent five volunteers as a part of its Kohl’s Cares program, and Hartschuh Family Farms donated some of their homemade syrup.
The Friends of the Crawford Park District encourages the appreciation and education of nature.
“I love this park. I think the people in Galion, Bucyrus, and Crestline are so fortunate to have Lowe-Volk. We need to teach kids the value of nature, and this is a good place to protect and enjoy it,” said Martha Kozik.
Kozik is a trustee of the Friends of the Crawford Park District and has volunteered for Pancakes in the Park since its beginning.
The trails and attractions of Lowe-Volk Nature Center are always free to the public, who can visit, admire, and learn more about nature.
