The Positive Seekers showed their gratefulness not only to the safety forces, but also to Mayor Jeff Reser at Tuesday night’s Bucyrus City Council meeting.

The local group began preparing for its annual Red, White, and Blues event last November, but without any responses to its sponsorship solicitations, it worried about the event’s future.

According to Carolyn Shireman and Joe Graham, they spoke with Reser in March about their concerns. The mayor, in turn, pulled on his fundraising experience to help out. Graham announced during the council meeting that they had positive responses from two local companies and hope to have funds soon to begin booking entertainment.

Red, White, and Blues 2017 is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 2 at Aumiller Park.

The Positive Seekers were also recognized for donating a wreath to honor the city’s safety forces in March.

Council approved four pieces of legislation. The legislation involved street closures for Cruisin’ with the Cops and the Bratwurst Festival, the leasing of the North End Fire Station at $1,500 a month for one year, and appropriations for the police department. The department received $4,671 for the Police Explorer program and $349.06 for Safety Town, funds that were donated privately and through the Community Foundation for Crawford County.

The city’s Clean-Up Week will occur during the first week of May. Residents will be allowed to have 12 bags of trash, though neither furniture nor appliances will be accepted.
