The Buckeye Central auxiliary gymnasium took another small step towards construction Thursday evening during the Buckeye Central Board of Education meeting.

In Superintendent Mark Robinson’s update to the board, Robinson reported that the Request for Proposals (RFPs) are due to the school on December 9. Robinson noted that a few of the companies have contacted him wanting more information.

“I look forward to this step,” Robinson said. “This is when the rubber hits the road. I believe we should approve the final RFP in January with hopes that we have shovels in the ground by March.”

The Buckeye Central Board of Education approved to meet with each firm during the week of December 12 for presentations before making a final decision on which firm they will choose.

Also during his report to the board Robinson noted that looking at the safety plan, the school still hadn’t designated rooms with numbers. As a result numbers were ordered.  Robinson also noted that he will be speaking with New Washington Police Chief Jeff Shook about a possible resource officer for the school.

In Treasurer Nancy Ackerman’s report to the board, she explained that the estimate vs. actual for the month of October was slightly off, but nothing to be too alarmed about. Ackerman explained that the income tax estimate came in slightly less than expected. Ackerman also laid out the plan to purchase three buses between next school year through 2021. Ackerman explained that she has budgeted the school to purchase a bus in 2017, 2019, and then in 2021. Ackerman noted that she budgeted $93,000 for the first bus, but the actual cost looks closer to $91,000.

The Buckeye Central Board of Education approved all items on the agenda for the meeting including the purchase of one 78 seat passenger conventional school bus, the employment of Joyce Cramer as an auxiliary nurse for the school year, and Mark Neise as piano accompanist for the district’s band concerts.
