SYCAMORE, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)— Mohawk Track Coach Harley Shaum has earned Coach of the Month honors from Lewis Family McDonald’s, in recognition of his work with student-athletes.

Shaum has spent three years coaching, including two years at Mohawk and one as a head coach. Having been involved in sports throughout his school years, he says he has always loved the idea of coaching the next generation.

Shaum says that what he enjoys most about being a coach is being able to help young athletes develop and unlock their full potential. One of his biggest accomplishments as a coach so far was last season, when Mohawk sent nine athletes to the State Track Meet.

Beyond wins, losses, and competition, Shaum says coaching has truly meant a lot to him.

“I really just love seeing kids work hard for something and seeing them achieve things they may not have thought were possible,” says Shaum.

Shaum said one of the most rewarding aspects of watching his athletes grow has been seeing them develop into hard-working and disciplined young men and women.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Shaum says he is looking forward to being back around the athletes and continuing to build off the successful season they had last year.

“We would love to continue to build off our successful season last year and continue to develop quality athletes and push towards league championships and postseason qualifiers,” says Shaum.

Shaum says he is very honored to be named Coach of the Month.

“It means a lot to know that what we are doing here is showing its results,” says Shaum.
