SHELBY (Crawford County Now) — Local teams competed in the Division II sectional tennis tournament at Shelby High School on Thursday.

In doubles, No. 2 seed Addie Weber and Savannah Clark of Bucyrus were upset in the first round by unseeded Bell and Gray of Ontario, 6-2, 6-2.

The Lady Red’s second doubles team of Mya Rothhaar and Maci Messerschmidt won their play-in round match over Shelby’s Wuchich and Keller, 6-3, 6-2. Rothhaar and Messerschmidt then fell to No.3 seed Walker and Conrad of Mansfield Madison, 6-1, 6-4.

Holt and Dye of Galion defeated O’Flaherty and Ritchey of Upper Sandusky, 6-2, 6-2, in their play-in match. They then defeated Martin and Farrell of Milan Edison, 6-3, 6-0.

Holt and Dye were then knocked out by Bell and Gray, 6-2, 6-1, who will meet Walker and Conrad in the semifinals on Saturday.

Bucyrus’ third doubles team of Serenity Potts and Meelah Marshall dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Fox and DeLara of Willard in the play-in round.

Galion’s Parsons and Wiggins topped Raphael and Gines of Mansfield Senior, 6-1, 6-2 before being eliminated by Howell and Barrera of Shelby, 6-0, 6-0.

In singles, Bucyrus’ Lily Engelhorn lost to Mya Roelle of Galion in the playing round, 6-1, 6-3. Roelle then got bumped from the tourney by Cara Yetzer of Lexington, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

The Tigers’ Destiny Blue advanced from the play-in round with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Amerah Hapin of Mansfield Madison. Blue then bowed out, 6-0, 6-0, to Shelby’s Courtney Howarth.

Katelyn McMullen of Galion defeated Cecilia Young of Lexington, 6-2, 6-1 and Lyla Frazee of Upper Sandusky, 6-0, 6-1, before falling to Kylie Carroll of Madison, 6-2, 6-3.

The semifinals and finals will be played back at Shelby on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. All who survived to the semifinals will advance to the district tournament at Port Clinton next week.
