GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—City officials have announced the immediate closure of the restrooms at Heise Park following a series of destructive incidents over the past ten days.
The decision comes after repeated acts of vandalism left the facilities unusable and in need of extensive repairs.
Recent reports indicate that the men’s restroom sustained significant damage, including a destroyed door handle and lock, followed by the destruction of a sink last night. The women’s restroom was similarly impacted, having been littered with trash, grass, and dirt.
“It is extremely disappointing, and infuriating, that a few individuals have acted in a manner that destroyed a resource that 99% of our community treats with respect and appreciation,” city representatives stated in a release.
These incidents are part of a broader pattern of vandalism affecting municipal spaces throughout the summer. Similar reports of graffiti and damage to restrooms and playground equipment have been documented at South Park, Nollen Park, and East Park.
The city is now calling on the public to assist in protecting these shared resources. Residents who witness ongoing vandalism are urged to contact the police department immediately. Anyone with information regarding the recent damage is also encouraged to come forward to assist with active investigations.
The restrooms at Heise Park will remain closed until repairs are completed and the facilities are restored for public use.
