ATTICA, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Seneca East Local Schools is showing off major upgrades to its athletic facilities, highlighted by a new artificial turf field on the high school campus.
Speaking during a recent episode of “Coach’s Corner Extra” with host Josh Stallings, Seneca East Athletic Director and coach Doug Mason credited district leadership, local businesses, and community members for making the project a reality.
“Our superintendent Dave Danhoff and our board have worked together to go out and really improve our athletic facilities,” Mason said. “Obviously, the turf field gets the most attention, but we also made great improvements to our athletic building inside for all our sports. So, it is an exciting time to be a Seneca East community member.”
The new surface benefits more than just the Tigers’ football program. Mason noted that spring sports teams will no longer be confined to the gymnasium during inclement weather.
“Whenever the fields are wet or conditions are wet, they can come out here, throw, hit, field balls,” Mason said, adding that local youth baseball and softball teams will also be granted access to the facility when local fields are soggy.
Funding for the overhaul relied heavily on local partnerships. Sutton Bank covered nearly half of the total project cost, while area contractors like Mohre Excavating assisted with earthwork and site preparation.
With facility upgrades expanding across the Northern 10 Athletic Conference, Mason noted that small-school athletics continue to thrive through community support.
