Breakfast goers had flapjacks that were stacked high on their plates at Bucyrus High School Saturday morning as the Bucyrus Rotary Club held its annual Pancake Day.

In its 43rd year, the Rotary Pancake Day is held to raise money so that the Bucyrus Rotary Club can put the money to use in the city. Rotary Club member Tami Tima explained where the proceeds of the donations on Pancake Day are used.

“The proceeds go all the way back into the community,” Tima said. “We give a lot of donations to the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, to the beautification – we take care of the islands in the middle of town – we do things for the library. If you go down to the Little League fields called Field of Dreams you will see our symbol there because we helped build the Little League fields and every few years we give them more money.”

Tima explained that while they use the money from the event to go back into the community, they couldn’t do it without the sponsors.

We get so much from United Bank,” Tima said. “They give us all the paper plates and napkins. Avita gives us the milk, the orange juice, the syrup, the butters. We get everything donated, and what we don’t get donated we go out and get.”

Some of the sponsors also also helped with the prizes that were being raffled off at the Pancake Day event.

“Jim Spreng and Tom Brown, their company gave $1,000 for first prize and that will be drawn on March 1,” Tima explained. “Second and third place prizes are pizzas from Pisanello’s every month for a year. Fourth, fifth and sixth prizes are $250 in cash donated by J & F Construction, Advanced Fiber Technologies, and FC Bank.”

Tima explained her favorite aspect of the Rotary’s Pancake Day.

Interact Kids, which is a Rotary group within the high schools are here, and are helping everything I need help with. The cheerleaders from Bucyrus are clearing the tables off, cleaning them up and setting them up again for the next group.”

The event lasted from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Bucyrus High School cafeteria. In the Little Theater of the school, the Bucyrus Players, Vocalmotion, and Danielle Rebon provided entertainment.
