The man caught with drugs in Heise Park will now be spending time in prison, one of two men to be sentenced to prison Wednesday in Common Pleas Court.

Thirty-two-year-old Myles Duncan pleaded guilty to trafficking in drugs, a third-degree felony, and drug possession, a fifth-degree felony.

Duncan, who is listed as homeless in court files, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for trafficking and 12 months for possession. The sentences will be served concurrently for a total of 30 months in prison. He received a six-month driver’s license suspension and a $5,000 fine. Duncan will also have to forfeit drug-related property being held to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

“You know the rules here. You sell drugs, you’re eligible to be sent to prison, (then) you’re going to be sent to prison,” Judge Sean Leuthold told Duncan. “I’ll tell you what, we don’t tolerate drug dealers in Crawford County.”

Alonzo West had a change in laws to thank for bypassing an 11-year prison sentence but he couldn’t avoid prison altogether.

The Adam Walsh Act, which was enacted in 2006, changed duty to register from an 11-year maximum prison sentence to a third-degree felony, 36-month prison sentence. West was convicted of rape in 1988, which predated the Adam Walsh Act.

Fifty-one-year-old West pleaded guilty to duty to register, a third-degree felony, and was sentenced to 36 months in prison in Crawford County Common Pleas Court Wednesday afternoon. He will also serve a mandatory five years on post-release control after his prison sentence.

“Any type of failing to register, it doesn’t matter what county you’re from,” said  Leuthold. “There’s not a single judge with a rape conviction that won’t send you to prison. Not with a rape on your record. It doesn’t work that way.”
