CRAWFORD COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Two people were seriously injured and four others received injuries after a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon at the intersection of State Route 39 and State Route 598. The crash, which remains under investigation, occurred just before 1:32 p.m., according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
A preliminary investigation found that Charles McClaskey, 75, of Marion, was driving a 2021 Ford Edge north on SR 598 and had stopped at the intersection with SR 39. As McClaskey’s vehicle entered the intersection, it was struck on the passenger side by a 2019 Chevy Equinox driven by Kalynn O’Connell, 30, of Tiro, who was traveling west on SR 39.
After impact, both vehicles went off the roadway and into ditches on opposite sides of the intersection.
Two passengers from McClaskey’s vehicle were critically injured and were airlifted by MedFlight and Promedica Life Flight to Grant Hospital in Columbus. A third passenger from the same vehicle was transported to Shelby MedCentral by Tiro Auburn EMS. McClaskey was not injured.
O’Connell and her two passengers were transported by Crestline EMS to Mansfield Med Central.
Multiple emergency and rescue units responded to the scene, including Jefferson Twp. EMS, Life First Ambulance District, New Washington Fire & EMS, Liberty Twp. Fire Department, Tiro-Auburn Vol. Fire Department, and Crestline Fire & EMS.
The Ohio Department of Transportation also responded to replace a stop sign downed in the crash. Hensley Towing removed both vehicles from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, and no additional information is available at this time.
