BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The City of Bucyrus honored the esteemed career of Police Chief Neil Assenheimer today during a retirement celebration, marking the end of an impactful tenure in law enforcement.

Chief Assenheimer began his journey with the Bucyrus Police Department in 1998 as an auxiliary officer before officially joining the force as a police officer two years later. His dedication and hard work quickly led to his promotion to Lieutenant in 2005 after five years of service.

In 2008, Assenheimer initiated the department’s K-9 program, serving as the handler for K-9 Amigo, further enhancing the capabilities of the police force. His leadership continued to flourish, resulting in his promotion to Captain in 2014.

In 2020, he rose to the role of Chief, where he became a strong advocate for his department. Assenheimer focused on building positive public relations while ensuring the safety and security of his officers. He was known for his commitment to using taxpayer dollars wisely, streamlining operations to enhance efficiency without compromising officer safety.

Chief Assenheimer leaves behind a proud legacy of service and dedication. He is married and has one son. The Bucyrus community will undoubtedly feel the impact of his leadership for years to come.
