GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—This May, the Galion History Center is inviting the public to participate in a live-action, 1970s-themed murder mystery game at the historic Brownella Cottage.
On Friday, May 30, the former home of Bishop William Montgomery Brown will transform into the setting for a CLUE-style game where guests become detectives tasked with solving a fictional crime rooted in Galion’s past.
“This is history with a twist,” said Museum Director Tanesha Pickering. “We’re combining Galion’s rich local heritage with the fun and drama of an interactive mystery game. It’s a way for people to experience Brownella Cottage in a completely new light.”
Set in 1976, the story begins at a dinner party hosted by Galion local Miriam Sayre, who invites her guests on a candlelit tour of the allegedly haunted Brownella Cottage. When a scream breaks the silence, the tour turns deadly with the discovery of the murdered caretaker, making one of the guests the prime suspect.
Participants will navigate the darkened halls of the cottage, interacting with suspicious characters like Dr. Bernard Mansfield, a secretive physician, and Mim Sayre, an outspoken English teacher. Guests will need to piece together clues found in various rooms to unmask the killer.
Games will be held at 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at Brownella Cottage, located at 132 S. Union St. in Galion. Guests should arrive at the Historic Grace Church, directly across the street, to begin the experience.
Tickets are $20 per player and must be purchased in advance at galionhistory.com/events. Tickets are non-refundable, and no-shows will be treated as a donation to the Galion History Center.
The event is open to participants ages 10 and up. While 1970s attire is encouraged to enhance the immersive atmosphere, it is not required. This year’s CLUE theme celebrates the History Center’s 70th anniversary.
The Galion History Center invites the public to join them for a night of suspense and sleuthing at Brownella Cottage.
