BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Oak Wood Cemetery is set to participate in the Wreaths Across America program for the first time this year, marking a significant milestone for the community. The wreath ceremony will take place on Saturday, December 14, promptly at noon at Oak Wood Cemetery on Kaler Ave. (Section I) in Bucyrus.
The ceremony will begin promptly at 12:00 noon in Section I of the cemetery. No wreaths can be handed out until the ceremony is over. Volunteers with pickup trucks are needed, as well as individuals to help lay wreaths in different sections of Oak Wood Cemetery.
This initiative, which honors veterans by placing wreaths on their graves, has been organized by the American Legion Auxiliary Post 181. Tami Tima-Burk, along with site co-coordinator Sonja Biglin, is spearheading the event, which is new to Oak Wood Cemetery but not to the American Legion Auxiliary 181. The American Legion Post 181, VFW Post 1078, and Amvets Post 27 of Bucyrus have all purchased wreaths for this ceremony. The auxiliary itself has been supporting Wreaths Across America for many years by purchasing wreaths for volunteers nationwide to place on veterans’ graves.
Last year, the Col. Crawford Post discovered the opportunity to partner with Oak Wood Cemetery to facilitate orders and delivery, ceremonial proceedings, and the placement of wreaths on the graves of local veterans. This year, they are making that partnership a reality.
The community is encouraged to support this initiative by sponsoring wreaths, volunteering on Wreaths Day, or inviting family and friends to attend the ceremony.
The mission of Wreaths Across America is to REMEMBER the fallen, HONOR those who serve, and TEACH future generations the value of freedom. This will be achieved through the sponsorship of wreaths, volunteering on National Wreaths Across America Day, and encouraging friends and family to participate in this meaningful tribute.
