Herbert “Herb” Henry Harden Jr., 91, of Galion, went to his eternal home on October 17, 2024. Herb was born May 11, 1933, in Mt. Gilead to Herbert H. Harden Sr. and Ethel (Kehrwecker) Harden. He was married to Norma Eichler who preceded him in death in 2004.
After retiring from Galion Ironworks, Herb started his own lawn service and continued to work into his 90th year. Herb was an avid coon, squirrel, and deer hunter. He was a Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed attending OSU football games. Herb frequently volunteered his time and was well respected in the local Amish community.
Although he had no children of his own, Herb has many nieces and nephews who view him as the “favorite Uncle” and will miss him dearly. Herb also leaves behind many close friends including special friend Annette Weikel.
Along with his wife and parents, Herb has joined all of his siblings in Heaven: Thelma and James Harmon, Velma and Tom Allen, Wanda and Oren Watkins, Paul Harden, May and Cletus Gale, and Spencer Harden.
The family would like to thank special friends Preston and Bernice Walters for taking Herb into their home and ensuring his final days were full of peace, love, and friendship. They invited many of Herb’s friends and family into their home to spend time reminiscing about days gone by.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Services will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Iberia Cemetery.
