BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a traffic safety grant from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office. The grant totals $28,851.18, comprising $13,675.59 for impaired driving enforcement and $15,175.59 for selective driving enforcement. The funding will be utilized from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025.

These grants are specifically awarded to law enforcement agencies in jurisdictions that have experienced an average of two or more fatal crashes over the three-year period of 2021, 2022, and 2023. The focus of this funding is to enhance high visibility enforcement—a proven traffic safety strategy aimed at deterring unlawful driving behaviors.

High visibility enforcement combines proactive law enforcement with targeted efforts addressing specific traffic safety issues. This approach not only increases enforcement presence but also integrates a publicity strategy to educate the public and promote compliance with traffic laws.

Lt. Jeremy McCracken emphasized the importance of these grants in enhancing community safety and reducing traffic-related incidents.
