Those looking to take a dip in one of the Bucyrus reservoirs or any of the city-owned waterways will have to look for another place to swim.

The Bucyrus Public Lands and Buildings Committee approved sending the measure that would prohibit swimming in all of the city-owned waterways to legislation Thursday night. Under the proposed legislation a $100 fine will be in place for those who break the rule. Once passed by Council the city will be able to place signage around the waterways informing pedestrians that swimming is prohibited.

Public Lands and Buildings approved renewing the lease with American Tower for the Verizon Tower for 45 years. The lease renewal will remain under the current terms with the city receiving $1,000 per month for rent with a 15 percent increase on rent per year. Both Verizon and Bucyrus would be able to opt-out of the contract after the first year. If the lease runs for the full 45 years the city would be receiving $512,000 per month in the final year of the contract. As a result of the renewal the city will receive a $5,000 signing bonus.

Prices to charge for lease of other city-owned towers was tabled until more information becomes available.

Public Lands and Buildings also approved to use Godaddy.com for the city’s web hosting and e-mail. The cost for the hosting will be $179 per year. The committee will wait until next meeting to decide on which internet service provider would be best for the city’s use.

In order to comply with rules so that the city can use the Bucyrus Waste Water Treatment Plant driveway in future mill and pave projects, the Platting Committee agreed to name the driveway Wednesday night. The driveway will be christened Friendship Lane.

Both the Health and Safety and Finance committees approved routine items for the Bratwurst Festival to go to legislation.

The Health and Safety Committee approved the ban on traffic in the downtown area where the festival will take place. The ban will be in effect from 12:01 a.m. August 12 through August 15. Also approved by Health and Safety was the notification to ODOT of the rerouting of traffic from Ohio 4 with signs of the detour to be placed up by the city.

The Finance Committee approved to increase the funds for the 2015 Bratwurst Festival to $16,500. The budget covers Police and Fire Department work, street equipment and labor, as well as miscellaneous items such as gas, landfill charges, and materials.

Each of the Bratwurst Festival items will have to be passed by emergency by Bucyrus City Council.
