BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—On May 16, 2024, at approximately 7:49 PM, local law enforcement attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Ford Fusion for traveling the wrong way on a one-way street. The vehicle, heading northbound on South East Street from Woodlawn Avenue, fled upon activation of the emergency lights and siren, reaching speeds of 50 to 60 mph.

The pursuit continued eastbound on East Mansfield Street and out of the city, with speeds reaching approximately 110 mph. Two officers from the Mansfield Police Department (BPD) pursued the vehicle to the area of the Crawford County Landfill.

The suspect’s vehicle ultimately suffered an engine failure, leading to the arrest of the driver, identified as Feree Kent, a 19-year-old resident of Mansfield. Officers observed a large amount of cash ($1,896) scattered throughout the vehicle and a large bag on the front passenger seat containing 41 boxes of Psilocybin Mushroom edibles (a Schedule 1 narcotic), 91 THC carts, and approximately 75 grams of raw marijuana.

Kent was transported to the Crawford County Justice Center to be held for court on charges of Failure to Comply with Order or Signal of a Police Officer and Possession of Schedule 1 or 2 Drugs, both felonies. The case remains under investigation and has been sent to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office for review and potential additional charges.

While marijuana has been legalized for recreational use in Ohio, laws pertaining to its sale, possession, and use still need to be followed.

According to the Bucyrus Police Department, this stop potentially prevented the illegal sale of these drugs to the youth in the community. Local law enforcement has recently seen a rise in incidents involving young school children and these drugs.

There were no injuries or damage to property as a result of this pursuit.
