Melodie Lynn Beck Fagan’s earthly life ended on Monday morning, April 22, 2024 and she stepped into eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her death was peaceful as she was at home with her family under the care of her friends and colleagues from Avita Hospice.
If you know me, it should not surprise you that I have written my own obituary. I have a few more things to say, and this seemed like a good opportunity.
First of all, thank you to everyone who showed my family and I so much love and support through my lung cancer diagnosis, treatment, and everything that came along with that. We are all very grateful. While the cancer journey was not always an easy one, and there are a lot of negative things associated with it, we were able to see God use even the worst things to do amazing things!
Over and over, people commented on my strength, and I, repeatedly, pointed to my God for that strength. Through cancer and everything else in my life, I trusted Jesus, and He never, ever, let me down.
Melodie was born February 12, 1967 in Upper Sandusky to the late Clifford Beck Sr. and Susan (Nutter) Beck who survives. She attended Wayside Christian School and Bucyrus High School from which she graduated in 1985. BHS is also where she met Michael D. Fagan whom she married on December 5, 1987. She then postponed her education to pursue her greatest colling, motherhood. Family meant everything to her and she instilled in each of her children the importance of making their faith their own. She returned to school to study nursing at Marin Tech, Colorado Christian University, and the University of Cincinnati for her masters. Melodie worked in oncology at Bucyrus Community Hospital before becoming a Nurse Practitioner and practicing family medicine and palliative care.
Melodie was a follower of Christ, wife, mother, mimi, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, nurse, music artist, traveler, and more. She did not sit idle and pursued many goals, even after her diagnosis in late 2021. Her faith was secure and her concern for others was carried out in her work, hobbies, and prayers. As long as she had life, she pursued life and clung to the faith described in Daniel chapter 3 that even if God would not deliver her from cancer, He is still good.
Melodie is survived by her husband, Mike Fagan; children, Miranda Fagan, Matt (Mindy) Fagan, Meredith (Allen) Stoll, and Marcus (Caitlin) Fagan; grandchildren, Will, Eli, Lukas, Rachael, Caleb, Judah, Samuel, Arohi, Theo, Nora, Blake, and Blair; mother, Susan Beck; siblings, Eric (Melanie) Beck, Brenda (Pat) Murray, Nellie (Cass) Foster, Cliff Beck Jr., Kathy (Greg) Hildebrand, and Joe (Jean) Beck; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends; along with her canine companions, Zuma and Barney. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by brother, Mike Beck.
Friends and family will gather on Friday, April 26 at First Alliance Church, 1955 Hopley Ave. Bucyrus (use Beal Ave. entrance) to celebrate her life with the service beginning at 11:00 am and fellowship to follow in the church’s Legacy Hall. She will be laid to rest privately in Oakwood Cemetery.
Rather than sending flowers, please consider a donation payable to First Alliance Church, The Gideons, or Mike Fagan (for an education fund for their grandchildren). These gifts can be given at the church the day of the service or at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus.
Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Melodie’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
