BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Gary Wayne Gallant, 53, of Bucyrus was arraigned in Crawford County Common Pleas Court Monday on drug trafficking charges.
The charges stem from the execution of felony narcotics search warrant carried out at 117 Fisher St., in Bucyrus.
Gallant told Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold that he wished to plead guilty but Leuthold told him he needed to speak to a lawyer about his case before making such a decision. Upon Gallant’s request, Leuthold appointed attorney Tom Nicholson to represent Gallant.
Before bond arguments, Gallant told Judge Leuthold he wanted to thank the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department for taking care of his dogs following his arrest.
Assistant County Prosecutor outlined Gallant’s criminal history dating back to 1998. Gallant has served time for crimes including over 20 traffic violations, felonies including felonious assault, domestic violence, breaking and entering and trafficking in drugs.
In light of expected additional charges stemming from having weapons under disability and confessions made during jail phone calls, Stanley asked for a $500,000.00 cash or surety bond.
Attorney Neil Huggins argued for bond in Gallant’s behalf noting that he had no ties other than those on Crawford County. Huggins told the court Gallant would be willing to go I to treatment and wear a monitoring device.
Judge Leuthold agreed that Gallant had been a lifelong resident of the county and had a good family support system in place.
Leuthold set bond for Gallant at $250,000.00 cash or surety.
A pretrial will be set in the near future.
