BUCYRUS—On Monday evening, the Wynford Board of Education held its monthly meeting.

The board approved the Wynford District One Plan for the 2023-2024, 2024-2025, and 2025-2026 school years.

“The District One Plan and the One Needs Assessment are two state documents that have to be turned in to the Ohio Department of Education. The districts all across the state of Ohio are all in cohorts, and the first year that Wynford was selected to be in a cohort was last year. A One Needs Assessment is, you go through with your administrative team and teachers, and you discuss the issues and root causes of maybe why you are not performing as well in certain areas, English and mathematics specifically, and you try to drill down to the root causes so you can make an assessment of where you are at and how to improve,” superintendent Trisler said.

Cast members Emma Hensel and Jack Gatchel, from the school’s most recent production of Annie, spoke to the board about the roles they played in the production and briefly on their experiences in plays.

Hensel, who played Grace Farrell, has been in five musicals, three of which she did in high school and two in elementary.

Gatchel, who played Mr. Warbucks, has been in five musicals, two of which have been with Wynford and three elsewhere. Gatchel said this has been his biggest role so far.

Treasurer Leesa Smith updated the board on financials, including money received from the Rover Pipeline. “For the second year in a row, the pipeline has half of their requirement. I think in the end if they end up doing the valuations, it’s around fifty to sixty percent that we are trying to get through. Maybe that’s the amount of money we’ll have, and we won’t have to worry about paying anything back because that’s how they’re approaching it,” Smith said.

Temporarily in the middle of the meeting, the board adjourned into executive session to consider the employment of a public employee or official.

All items in the personnel agenda were approved.

Aside from items B11 and B12 under operational items, all were approved.

Items B11 and B12, the 2023-2024 Wynford Middle/High School Student Handbook and the Wynford Athletic Handbook, respectively, were tabled for further discussion at a future meeting where all changes can be highlighted and discussed in further detail.

The next board meeting is May 15 at 5:30 p.m.
