The gun raffle that took place over this past weekend at the Crawford County fairgrounds turned out to be a lucrative venture in its first year.

It was reported during Wednesday’s Senior Fair Board meeting that the raffle turned a $10,000 profit with the proceeds to be used for renovation work around the fairgrounds.

While no date has been set in stone, the Fair Board discussed holding another gun raffle in 2016.

The Liberty Leaders 4-H Club was on hand Wednesday night to propose to the Fair Board having a 5-K run on the first day of the fair for the second straight year. The Fair Board approved the proposal.

The Junior Fair unveiled the 2015 theme to the Crawford County Fair. This year’s theme is “Big or Small There’s a Hero in Us All.”

The Junior Fair Board also reported for the Senior Fair Board a few fundraisers in the coming months. From 7 to 11 a.m. on March 21 the Junior Fair Board will be hosting a pancake breakfast. On May 19 at the Galion Pizza Hut the 4-H will be holding a fundraiser to go towards their summer camp. During the Pizza Hut fundraiser $3 of the $9 buffet will go towards the camp.

During the secretary’s report Tom Laughbaum reported that A-1 Printing returned with a quote on the 2015 Fair Book. The rate will remain the same as last year at $3,990. Ads for the Fair Book are due by March 13 at the latest.

The Fair Board agreed to pay Dallas and Bucyrus Township Fire Departments $1,800 for fire coverage during the 2015 County Fair.

The next Crawford County Senior Fair Board meeting will be held at 8 p.m., March 25.
