The Wynford school board will meet in special session Monday morning and on the agenda for board members is the resignation of long-time band director, Carl Copeland.

Copeland was suspended by the school board last fall and on Nov. 25 made that suspension without pay effective Nov. 26. Also at that same meeting the board instituted proceedings to terminate Copeland’s employment by the school district.

Citing ongoing proceedings, Superintendent Steve Mohr would only say at that time in a statement to board members that Copeland’s actions constituted grounds for termination under guidelines set forth in the Ohio Revised Code.

Earlier in the fall but after the school year had begun, the board approved Matthew Safford to take over all of Copeland’s classes and duties with the marching and other school bands.

According to the school board’s agenda for Monday, Copeland’s resignation if accepted would be effective Feb. 21.

Also on that agenda is consideration to amend dates for Mohr’s contract as superintendent to reflect an ending date of July 31, 2016.

Monday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m.in the Wynford Elementary School library.
