The old saying goes that politics makes for strange bedfellows. It also makes for interesting primary races.

Two former Bucyrus mayors will face off in the May 5 primary in a bid to get the job back. Democrats Mike Jacobs and Dan Ross have filed petitions and will be on the May 5 ballot for the Primary Election.

Ross resigned the office in 2010 after the Crawford County Board of Elections ruled his residence was outside the city limits. The Democratic Central Committee named Jacobs, then a member of Bucyrus City Council, as Ross’s immediate successor. Jacobs was later defeated by Republican Roger Moore.

The current Bucyrus mayor, Republican Jeff Reser, will be unopposed in the spring primary.

Four people are running for three at-large seats on Bucyrus City Council. They include incumbent council member Wanda Sharrock and former council member Dan Wirebaugh who filed as Democrats, and Dale Gingery and Mark Makeever who filed as Republicans.

Several other people have filed for re-election in Bucyrus. They are City Council President Sis Love, Law Director Rob Ratliff, Auditor Joyce Schifer, and council members Monica Sack and Bruce Truka.

Former Crestline police Gerald Dowell has filed to run for mayor in that village as a Democrat. Current mayor, David Sharrock, has already stated he does not intend to seek re-election.

County ballot issues include two Wynford school district renewal levies, a renewal levy in Texas Township and a Children Services renewal levy for all of Crawford County.

The Crestline school district is asking voters to approve a new money issue, a 10-year 0.75-percent income tax levy for current expenses.
