Even while much of the village was still digging out from the winter’s biggest snow storm to date, New Washington Village Council members found one way to think about better days ahead.
Phase Two of the New Washington Pool Project received the go ahead from council Monday night. Following up on the work done to the poolhouse in 2014, Phase Two will consist of paving the drive from the parking lot in front of the pool to the parking lot between the softball fields. The outdoor lights around the pool will also be replaced with more efficient materials. Resolution 1258 gave permission to Buildings and Grounds Committee Chair Paul Forster to pursue this project.
Mayor Ben Lash and Councilman Brian Agin will be attending a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion Hall to discuss this summer’s Hatchery Festival. The American Legion approached the Village last fall about picking up the mantle of running the festival, as the Community Improvement Corporation’s tenure came to an end.
Signs that will designate Ohio 103 in the Village Limits as Robertson Memorial Way have been ordered. Joe Blum informed Council that he ordered the two 48” wide signs, one of each will be posted at the Village limits at either end of Ohio 103.
Fire Chief Dick Ackerman requested approval to purchase a new carbon monoxide detector. Council approved the $1,800 necessary to purchase the new unit that the department has had on loan for the last couple of months. This new system will actually detect five different gases, not just carbon monoxide. The old unit is 11 years old, and simplicity of this new system makes life easier for volunteers who only use this equipment on a part-time basis.
The meeting ended with Council adjourning to executive session.
