There are going to be a few minor alterations to next summer’s fair after the Fair Board agreed to some livestock rule changes Wednesday night.
The Fair Board gave its approval to dairy steers being weighed off the trailer. Dairy steers will also be shown in showmanship with beef steers. The board also approved that all beef feeder calves must be vaccinated 30 days from the fair and have health papers showing that the vaccinations took place.
Fair Board members approved the Goat Committee’s rule change of no angora, pygmy, Nigerian dwarf or crossbreed of angora, pygmy, or Nigerian dwarf to be allowed to show in any dairy or market class. Also approved by the Fair Board was the rule that all goat pens must be cleaned out by 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday of fair week.
Also discussed was the Saturday sale of livestock. It will begin at 9 a.m. with a sale of champions taking place between 12 and 12:30 p.m. Also requested was that the exhibitors during the sale be limited to one per species, and three species max unless selling a champion.
An organizational meeting was held to swear-in new and incumbent members of the Fair Board. Sworn in were Gary Hamman, Barbara Koschnick, Tim Reinhard, Bryan Cole, Marla Scheffer, Ned Lucious, and Mo Ressallat.
Also during the organizational portion of the meeting President Rebecca Starner, Vice President Don Frombaugh, and Secretary/Treasurer Tom Laughbaum were re-elected to their same positions for 2015.
2014 Crawford County Fair Queen Morgan Coffman and 2014 Crawford County Fair Princess Grace Conrad spoke before the Fair Board Wednesday night. While speaking with the board, Coffman, and Grace passed around a booklet of the 35 county fairs, independent fairs and agricultural events in Ohio that they have attended.
“We found something fun at each fair,” Coffman said. “But the Crawford County fair is still my favorite because of the support my friends, family and the Fair Board have given.”
The 2014 Fair royalty brought brochures and cards of possible vendors that they would like to see at upcoming Crawford County Fairs.
Prior to leaving Coffman requested that the Fair Board pay for registration into the Queen Contest, and room for one night at the Ohio Fair Convention.
The next Fair Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Dec. 29.
