MANSFIELD—When you listen to Steve Brown play music, you’d never guess that he hated piano lessons, or that he learned rhythm through morse code. As a solo performer with a repertoire of over 500 songs, Steve’s piano skills, smooth vocals, and easy smile leave every one of his audiences in toe-tapping good spirits; and for one night only, patrons will be able to enjoy an intimate concert with Steve and four other inspiring musicians at the Renaissance’s Theatre 166 venue on October 30.

“As a piano player performing in wineries, restaurants, and piano bars, I’m delighted to invite four of my jazz friends to join me in an evening of live jazz. I’m also proud to continue the vision of the late Dr. Tom Croghan, who was a great local supporter of the arts, especially jazz. The Theatre 166 provides the perfect intimate setting to share this music with the audience” said Brown.

Members of the famous 5-piece ensemble feature Steve Brown on piano and vocals; Jeffrey Boyd on trumpet; Eric Fairhurst on sax and flute; Dan Conwell on bass; and Steve Berry on drums. At the Theatre 166 concert, (Steve Brown and Friends will perform some of the great music from the American Songbook as a platform to showcase their interpretive and improvisational skills. This evening of authentic live jazz will feature the works of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Chick Corea, and many others).

“It’s exciting to be able to present Steve Brown and Friends this season,” said Chelsie Thompson, Renaissance President. “Steve has been a staple of our music community, both as an entertainer and as an educator, and we’re so lucky to have local musicians of the caliber that this ensemble provides.”

Steve Brown and Friends will be featured at 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 30th in the Ren’s black box space, Theatre 166, located at 166 Park Avenue West. This concert is made possible by Concert Series Presenter Avita Health Systems, with additional support from Hudson & Essex.
