The streets of Bucyrus turned into a scene out of a George Romero film as the second annual Bucyrus Zombie Walk paraded through downtown Saturday night.

Starting at the Muffler House and being led by the New Philadelphia Ghostbusters Ecto-One, more than 100 people dressed as zombies both big and small, and all young at heart, walked the streets of downtown Bucyrus.

The Zombie Walk was for a good cause as the zombies anted up food to take part and compete for prizes. The donations went to the Bucyrus Area Salvation Army.

Billy ZornesThe Zombie Walk met its end at Zornes’ Auction Factory where a zombie prom and party was held.

“My brother is really big into it, and I support him, and we just go all out every year. It just seems like it is getting bigger and better every year,” Billy Zornes said. “It’s great fun.”

During the zombie prom and party, prizes were given out by Betsy Gerhart and the staff at MB Subculture. Also during the party were zombie-themed games such as best zombie crawl and the brains eating contest.

Brian Robertson, along with daughter Alexis, won the grand prize for best zombie costume.

“We try to do all of them around the state of Ohio, because we feel that giving back to the communities is much needed, and she needs to learn that at a young age,” Robertson said. “And it’s fun to be dressed up like zombies.”

Prior to the Zombie Walk, MB Subculture held an open house at their store featuring music, movies, help with zombie costumes, and the New Philadelphia Ghostbusters.

Neighboring MB Subculture the HomeCare Matters Home Health and Hospice had a zombie treatment center.

“Zombies need treatment too. For one day only we decided that HomeCare Matters would offer everything from pediatric care to beyond the grave care, and it was just something fun that we wanted to do for the community; to be out here and support everybody,” said Dean Heid, HomeCare Matters Development and Marketing Coordinator.
